12 NFL Quarterbacks With the Most Super Bowl Wins

Very few NFL quarterbacks have the opportunity to compete in a Super Bowl, and even fewer actually win one. From that select group of Super Bowl winners, an even smaller group of QB’s have won multiple. We compiled a list of these QB’s and ranked them from fewest wins to most.

12. Bart Starr (2)

Bryan Bartlett “Bart” Star played for the University of Alabama and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 17th round of the 1956 NFL Draft. He is the only quarterback in history to lead a team to three consecutive league championships (1965, 1966, & 1967). He also led the Packers to victory in Super Bowl I & II and was named MVP of both games. Bart was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977. After retiring from playing, he spent one year as the QB coach and 9 years as the Head Coach of the Packers.

11. Bob Griese (2)

Robert “Bob” Griese played football for Purdue before being drafted in the first round of the 1967 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Griese played as the Dolphins QB from 1967 to 1980 and led them to three consecutive Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl VII and VIII. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and later worked as a television commentator, calling football games for a number of TV stations.

10. Roger Staubach (2)

Roger Staubach attended the U.S. Naval Academy and won the Heisman trophy for his achievements. He went on to be a tenth-round “future” selection by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1964 NFL Draft. Staubach graduated from the Naval Academy in 1965 and chose to volunteer for a one year tour of duty in South Vietnam, where he served as a Supply Corps officer until 1967.

He served the remainder of his Naval career in the United States and went on to join the Dallas Cowboys in 1969. Staubach played as a backup to quarterback Craig Morton until 1971 when he took over as starting quarterback in week eight of the season. He led the Cowboys to 10 consecutive wins and a victory in Super Bowl VI. Staubach was named the games MVP, and continued on to win Super Bowl XII some years later. He led the Cowboys to two additional Super Bowls, X & XIII, where the lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers both times. Staubach retired after the 1979 season due to concerns of his long term health after suffering 20 concussions over the course of his career.

9. John Elway (2)

John Albert Elway Jr played college football at Stanford where he received All-American honors. He was selected as the first pick of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts before being traded to the Denver Broncos, where he would play his entire 16-year career. Elway led the Broncos to three Super Bowls, losing all three before returning to Super Bowl XXXII and winning. The Broncos returned again and won Super Bowl XXXIII the following year under his lead. Elway retired after that season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004. He became the Executive Vice president of Football Operations for the Broncos in 2011 before becoming the General Manager in 2014, directing the team to a victory in Super Bowl 50.

8. Jim Plunkett (2)

James “Jim” Plunkett played college football for Stanford University where he won the Heisman Trophy and was selected as the first pick of the 1971 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He played for the Patriots from 1971-1975 before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, where Plunkett played in 1976 & 1977. After a poor season in 1977, he was released by the 49ers and joined the Oakland Raiders in 1978. Plunkett served in a reserve capacity for two seasons before coming into relieve 1st string quarterback Dan Pastorini after he suffered from a fractured leg. Plunkett threw 5 interceptions and lost the game.

He continued as the starter for the rest of the season and guided Oakland to 9 victories and a playoff berth as a wild card. Plunkett continued to lead the Raiders through the playoffs and to a win in Super Bowl XV, becoming the first team to win a Super Bowl as a wild card. He was named the games MVP for his efforts, and returned the team to a championship win after a victory in Super Bowl XVIII. Plunkett spent the remainder of his seasons as a backup or injured before retiring in 1988.

7. Ben Roethlisberger (2)

Benjamin “Ben” Roethlisberger is the current quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that selected him in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In his first season as a professional, Roethlisberger earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2004. He led the Steelers to a victory in Super Bowl XL, becoming the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl in NFL history at age 23. Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a second championship victory in Super Bowl XLIII. He is a 6 time pro bowl quarterback and is currently ranked 7th In all-time NFL passing yards.

6. Eli Manning (2)

Eli Manning played college football for the University of Mississippi and was selected as the first pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers traded him to the Giants during the draft, where he served as the starting quarterback from 2004 to 2019. He led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories, XLII & XLVI, and won MVP in both games. Super Bowl XLII is widely regarded as one of the biggest upsets in NFL history, as the Patriots had completed the first perfect 16 win season only to lose to E. Manning’s Giants. He retired from the NFL in 2019 after a successful career. Eli Manning is also the younger brother of 2x Super Bowl winning quarterback Peyton Manning, making them the only quarterback siblings to both win a Super Bowl.

5. Peyton Manning (2)

Peyton Manning played college football for the University of Tennessee, leading them to an SEC Championship in 1997 during his senior season. He was selected as the first pick of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent 14 seasons. Manning led the Colts to a Super Bowl win in Super Bowl XLI, the franchises first in over 3 decades. He was named MVP for his efforts and continued to play for the Colts until 2011. After undergoing neck surgery that sidelined him for the 2011 season, the Colts released Manning and he signed with the Broncos. He spent four seasons playing for the Broncos before retiring, leading them to a championship in his final season at Super Bowl 50. He holds multiple NFL records and is the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl with more than one franchise.

4. Troy Aikman (3)

Troy Aikman played 12 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys, the franchise that selected him as the first pick of the 1989 NFL Draft. Aikman played college football at UCLA, where he won Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year. He led the Cowboys to three championships, Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX. He was named the MVP of Super Bowl XXVII and was a 6-time Pro Bowl Quarterback. Aikman retired from the NFL in 2000 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Since retiring, he has served as a sportscaster on the Fox television network.

3. Terry Bradshaw (4)

Terry Bradshaw played college football at Louisiana Tech University and was selected as the first overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a rough start in the NFL, but eventually led the Steelers to 8 AFC Championships and 4 Super Bowl titles – IX, X, XII, and XIV. Bradshaw was named the MVP of Super Bowl XIII and XIV and was a 3 time pro bowler, making him one of the most successful quarterbacks of all time. He retired from the NFL in 1983 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Since retirement, Bradshaw has served as a television sports analyst.

2. Joe Montana (4)

Joseph “Joe” Montana played in the NFL for 16 seasons, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football at Notre Dame and won a national championship before being selected in the third round of the 1979 NFL Draft by the 49ers, where he played for the next 14 seasons. Over those seasons, Montana led the team to four Super Bowl victories (XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV). He was the MVP of three Super Bowls, making him the first ever player with that accomplishment. Montana spent his final two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he led them to an AFC Championship. The 8 time pro bowler retired from the NFL in 1994 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, his first year of eligibility.

1. Tom Brady (7)

Thomas “Tom” Brady Jr. is deservingly known as the greatest quarterback of all time. Over his career, Brady has won 7 Super Bowl titles and is a 5-time Super Bowl MVP. He played college football at the University of Michigan, starting at the bottom of the depth chart and working his way up. Brady was selected in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he spent the next 20 seasons. He won Super Bowl XXXVI in his first season as starting quarterback, the first championship for the Patriots. Brady continued to lead the Patriots to 5 more Super Bowl titles over his career in New England: XXXVIII, XXIX, XLIX, LI, and LIII.

In March of 2020, Brady announced he would not re-sign with the Patriots and instead signed a 2 year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his first season with the Buccaneers, at age 43, Brady led the team to his 7th Super Bowl victory. He is the oldest player to ever start, play, win, and receive the MVP award in Super Bowl history. Brady joined Peyton Manning as the second player to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises. After the victory, Brady declared he would be returning for the 2021 season and does not seem to be slowing down.
